What is it

This site provides information on the Budget, as outlined by the Department of Finance.  The budget process is the decision-making process for allocating public resources to the government’s policy priorities.  It is through the Budget process that the government gains the Parliament’s authority to spend relevant money through the passage of the annual appropriation acts and other legislation that establishes special appropriations. The government then allocates this money to departments of state and other Commonwealth entities.  The Commonwealth public sector must effectively manage the finite resources within its control.  The Government’s ability to deliver on its policy commitments and achieve its objectives relies on effective budgeting.
