On Friday 8 November 2019, over 200 people attended the sold out launch of the Delivering Great Policy initiative. Attendees had diverse backgrounds and roles, from academia, the private sector and all corners of the APS. The level of interest reaffirms the initiative as relevant and topical.
We partnered with the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) for the event, giving us the opportunity to showcase our approach. But the event would not have been a success without the contribution of all attendees. During the event, there were many conversations between attendees, through interactions with the exhibits, our team and each other.
The launch saw the team seek feedback from attendees to refine the four core elements to delivering great policy advice. These are the need for policy to be:
- clear on intent
- well informed
- practical to implement, and
- influential.
In addition, foundations of readiness underpin delivery of great policy advice; culture, mindsets, skills and the right tools and processes.
Secretaries Dr Heather Smith PSM, Mike Mrdak AO, Frances Adamson and Renée Leon PSM each spoke to an element of great policy advice, sharing personal experiences and practical advice.
Stay tuned for future updates and to hear what is next.
